Note: This Interface box will enable both a PICO scope and a Lab/Bench Scope such as the OWON scope or Fluke Scope simultaneously safely.
The OWON scope or Fluke Scope will require an added set of devices because the probes for the OWON or Fluke scope are a 10-1 attenuator. Should you connect up the OWON scope or Fluke scope directly to the Interface Box II ports the measurement values you get will be grater than the actual values that you should see. This could give you an erroneous value. But if you add one of these devices (a PICO 10-1 Attenuator) to each channel of the OWON or Fluke scope channels that will correct your readings. The PICO attenuators are purchased by you separately and is not provided in the Interface Box II purchase.
This is a means to improve your safety when conducting MEP/DE testing when using the Stetzer Ubiquitous (Hy Pass Filter) which blocks signals below 60 Hz from the input to the PICO scope input typically on port “B”.
What you may not realize is that the other leads (on the side with the power plug) of the Stetzer Ubiquitous (Hy Pass Filter) are at 120 volts RMS. These leads are fully exposed and have a risk of electrical shock when using the filter, you could accidently electrocute yourself.
In addition, if you directly feed this 120 RMS high voltage to your PICO scope it will damage the PICO scope because this scope type is limited to 30 Volts input max, 120 volts to the PICO scope is very dangerous. In the past people used a High Voltage differential probe to protect the scope. The PICO TA057 Differential Probe can run up to $379.00 Plus Shipping & Taxes to buy just by itself.
On this PICO interface II, you can eliminate the need for a high voltage probe because the output voltage of the high volts output has been modified and is limited to 10 – 11 volts max. This typically is connected to Port “A” of the PICO scope (called Low Volts on the Interface II box). The High Pass out port can be connected to the PICO scope “B” outlet and the Channel 2 port of the OWON scope or the Fluke scope.
It comes with two 3 feet long RG-8X coax cables with BNC connectors installed. RG-8X coax cables have a heavy full copper braid shield with 95% coverage for excellent protection from other noise sources that may be present in the testing environment. You will not get any interference from cell phones, or other RF signals onto the signal wire that could distort your readings.
With the added ports for the OWON or Fluke scope you can directly port the high voltage of the Stetzer Hy Pass filter into the OWON or Fluke scope provided you realize that without the PICO attenuators your readings will be artificially higher than actual values.
